A little about me...
My name is Cassidy Nairn. As of now, I'm 21 years old. I graduated from G.P. Vanier Secondary School in 2014 and I’ve lived on Vancouver Island all my life and enjoy everything about it. My parents are both very supportive of me. I have a younger sister, a dog, Sadie and a cat, Chloe. I love cats, they are my weakness and my strength. I also love to read, write, listen to music, play guitar and sculpt with clay. Some activities I enjoy are snowboarding and volleyball as well as travelling. But usually if someone asked me what I like to do, the first thing I would always say is that, ‘I love to draw’.
I’ve been an artsy kid all my life. At some point in high school I almost forgot about my creative side with everything else life was throwing at me. Though, it would always show whenever we had to make poster board projects! Art class was what I always looked forward to; listening to music and letting my imagination flow onto paper. Somedays though, I would have art blocks and I would never know what to do. But to get some inspiration back into my life I would get in touch with nature, stare at the stars on clear nights and take photographs.
Photography is something I have always loved to do, macro photography is my favourite; taking photos of bugs, flowers and morning dew as well as sunset photography. I took a photography class in grade 11 and learned the rule of thirds and how to make photographs pop or catch your eyes. I now take too many photos for my own good.
I started watching cartoons on TV like Gravity Falls and Steven Universe and absolutely loved their complex overarching storylines. More and more cartoons were starting to follow the same style and I was getting more invested in the writing and how much work goes into the animation of the shows. It wasn’t until grade 11 that I went into digital animation myself and loved everything about it. Something about seeing your own characters come to life was worth all of the hard work.
I’ve been torn between animation and photography whenever anyone would ask what I wanted to do as a career. Though, I love photography to bits, I figure its better for a part time hobby. I draw on my IPad with sketchbook pro everyday anyways, might as well go into a career I can put that to use! :)
